I was lucky enough to be given an ARC of this story by the author and I consider myself lucky.This historical BDSM is set in England in the eleventh century and features Sir Degare Aucourte and Sir Alano – the Black Knight. The book is short – only 39 pages according to my ereader – but it packs one hell of a punch. This is my one complaint, in fact. I wanted a longer story.
Degare meets Alano and quickly falls under his spell. Not only does he crave the touch of a man, but Degare craves the whip and Alano satisfies all of his wants. After a blissful month Alano is forced to leave and Degare is facing a punishment worse than death – he is facing marriage to an older Spanish countess.
The King himself has ordered this political marriage and Degare is being forced to obey. I’m not going to say what happens to Degare, Alano and Lady Isabella but I think that I am right in saying that the ending is a good one.
The BDSM element shown in the book is not a strong one but it is there. We also don’t see a lot of the relationship between the principal characters but I think that this is only because of the the length of the book.
The writing is good and the book kept me interested.
Definitely recommended.

A short read usually leaves me feeling disappointed and unfulfilled but The Black Knight by H. C. Brown had the opposite effect. In just around 40 pages, H.C. Brown managed to combine forbidden love with duty and suspense. The characters manage to capture your heart in just a few pages. A read suitable for an evening of escapism or a train ride, the book draws you in from the start and keeps you yearning for the happy ever after. Well done.
